GRAPHALLOY®
Bearings for Data Center Pumps

GRAPHALLOY bearings for nuclear applications
"When Failure Is Not an Option, GRAPHALLOY is the Proven Choice..."

Summary

Modern data centers depend on continuous cooling to maintain uptime and protect critical infrastructure. When pump bearings, bushings, or wear rings fail, the result can be thermal risk, emergency maintenance, reduced cooling capacity, and costly downtime. GRAPHALLOY materials help chilled water, condenser water, cooling tower, booster, sump, and other critical pumps operate reliably in demanding conditions where conventional metal, carbon, or plastic components may gall, seize, swell, or lose clearance.

When failure is not an option, GRAPHALLOY is the proven choice for data center pump reliability.

Why GRAPHALLOY for Data Center Pumps?

GRAPHALLOY materials, made from graphite-metal alloys, offer key advantages for mission-critical cooling pump service:

  • Self-lubricating: Require no grease or oil
  • Non-galling: Will not gall or seize when running against metal rotating parts
  • Run-dry capable: Survive dry starts, loss of suction, flashing, and other upset conditions
  • Dimensional stability: Maintain running clearances through temperature changes and submerged service
  • Improved pump reliability: Help protect shafts, seals, and rotating equipment during transient operating conditions
  • Improved efficiency: Allow tighter running clearances in bushings and wear rings
  • Lower vibration: Tighter clearances can reduce vibration and support longer seal life

GRAPHALLOY for Mission-Critical Cooling Reliability

Cooling Pumps That Must Stay Online

Data center cooling systems cannot tolerate unexpected pump failure. GRAPHALLOY bushings, bearings, and wear rings are designed for demanding operating conditions including marginal lubrication, start-stop cycles, standby operation, dry starts, and low-flow upsets. Unlike conventional metal components, GRAPHALLOY will not gall or seize. Unlike many plastic materials, it will not swell or lose dimensional stability in submerged service.

Protection During Upset Conditions

Loss of suction, dry running, flashing, and low-lubricity conditions can damage conventional pump wear components. GRAPHALLOY is self-lubricating and non-galling, allowing rotating parts to contact without catastrophic seizure. This makes GRAPHALLOY an ideal upgrade for pumps where uptime, redundancy, and rapid restart capability are essential.

Tighter Clearances for Better Pump Performance

Because GRAPHALLOY is non-galling, pump wear parts can often be designed with tighter running clearances than metal alternatives. Tighter clearances can reduce internal recirculation, lower vibration, support mechanical seal life, and improve pump efficiency.

Specify with Confidence

With more than 100 material grades, Graphite Metallizing Corporation engineers can match a bearing to virtually any water chemistry or temperature profile. Every sleeve bearing, flange block, or thrust washer is machined in Yonkers, NY under ISO 9001 quality control.
